What a gem! Friends took us to the Bar Fly Saltwater Grill on Main Street in Safety Harbor and what a treat! The Bloody Mary Bar is worth the trip itself, it looks like a whole meal in a glass! The steamed bucket was amazing, with snow crabs, oysters, and jumbo shrimp. And the Smoked Fish dip was fantastic. Prices are reasonable and you have a choice of inside or outside seating. We went on a Sunday and waited a little, but it was so worth the wait! We took the time to walk around the town a bit. Don’t be in a hurry when you go, you will be there a couple of hours!
The Safety Harbor Resort and Spa is directly across the street from the Bar Fly – make sure you walk through and make plans to revisit for their Sunday Brunch!
Sharky’s on Venice Beach is one of our favorite places to go! Food is amazing, sunsets are beautiful and the owner, Jason, is friendly and welcoming to all his guests. Ask about joining Pier Pals! Spend a day on the beach and walk over to grab lunch or stay for dinner and watch the sunset.
Pier Pals is a program where you go once a month, get invites to guests appreciation dinners and a no-wait to get in! If you are interested in a more formal atmosphere visit Fin’s at Sharky’s.

Sunset Grill at Little Harbor is one of the best places to sit along the shores of Tampa Bay and joy a beautiful sunset. Sit outside at the Tiki Bar and enjoy your favorite drink while watching the sun disappear. The food is great and the service is excellent! They serve an amazing Sunday Brunch from 8:00am-2:30pm, so start your day-by-the-bay! Send me your email address for a 10% coupon off a table for four, from Feb. 1, 2019 through Feb. 28, 2019. Saturday was a nice warm sunny day for the Anna Marie Island Privateers and just a “few” fun friends riding the Skullywag for a pubcrawl. Pubs included Tommy Knockers on Anna Marie Island, Peggy’s Corral and Jaxx Playbook. What’s not to like living in Florida!
With our last name being MCLAUGHLIN we like to search out true IRISH pubs and we definitely found the real deal at O’Brien’s – Irish Pub & Grill in Brandon, Fl. The food was good, the service excellent and it’s an all around neighborhood pub where you can meet new friends or enjoy a ‘pint’ with old ones! This is a Veteran owned establishment serving veterans and veteran organizations around the Tampa Bay area.
So, stop in and say HELLO and have some ‘fish and chips’ while you are out Christmas shopping and support local restaurants with such great community ties! They have already started their count down until St. Patrick’s Day!!! – it’s 89 days from today 12/17/18!
It doesn’t get much better than this! A clear, warm night in Apollo Beach, Fl., watching the Christmas-decorated boats show off their creativity. Crowds gathered to join in the fun. If you plan to go next year, I would definitely suggest going early as we did. We sat on the outside terrace and enjoyed the view, food and a few cocktails with friends.
The Blu Mangrove is one of my favorite places to sit on the outside patio with friends while enjoying a warm Florida afternoon. The Marina sits on the Manatee River and you can come by land or water, as dockside parking is available. Happy Hour is everyday starting at 11am ’til 6pm.
A favorite appetizer for me is the Ahi Tuna Wonton cups! The wonton cups are filled with seaweed salad, ahi tuna and topped with ginger and wasabi. 3 cups will run about $14.00.
Add an order of Doc’s Fish spread with tortilla chips for $10.00 and you have a meal!
Dinners are a little pricey, however; the presentation and taste are exquisite!
Have fun in the sun in Florida and visit these great hidden gems! Blu Mangrove is located at 102 Riviera Way, Palmetto, Fl. 34221, in the Riviera Dunes Marina.
Jaxx Playbook Sports Bar & Grill in Palmetto is just what you have been looking for in a “neighborhood sports bar”. Come in for a few beers and watch a game, shoot some pool, and socialize. The owner, Garrett, with me in this picture, is very accommodating for special events and parties. Me and my friends stopped in one evening and I had an appetizer “The Steal,” which is 3 burger sliders and they were great and only $6.95! My friends had “TheHome Run,” an Italian sub for $8.49, and “The Power Play,” a Reuben sandwich for $9.49. Get the play on words? After all this is a Sports Bar! As you can see, this is a great place to relax, have some fun and it is easy on the wallet.
We had a fantastic day, yesterday, at the Swordfish Grill andTiki Bar in Cortez, Florida. It was the venue for the 6th annual Stone Crab Festival. The Swordfish grill has live music 7 days a week on the deck outside overlooking the Sarasota Bay, which is the place you want to be for epic sunsets! It’s located in the historic Fishing Village of Cortez where you can also purchase fresh seafood. Very casual atmosphere, “a mix of Old Florida and the Freshest Local Seafood” as their ads say. The Seared Ahi Tuna and seaweed salad is one of my favorites! This is definitely on my list of ‘best places to go’ in Southwest Florida.
Below is a short video from the outside deck. The address for the Swordfish Grill is 4628 119th St W, Cortez, Florida 34215, just before crossing over the bridge into Anna Maria Island.
If you have ever tried these succulent, juicy, stone crabs you know what I mean! Stone Crabs are one of Florida’s finest delicacy. Local fisherman fetch these beauties from the surrounding waters and these tasty claws will be served at the “6th Annual Cortez Stone Crab & Music Festival”this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12th along with live entertainment from local musicians! They literally come from the water to your plate! It doesn’t get any better than that to enjoy a weekend of fun, sun, great local food and local music. Festival location: 4628 119th St. W., Cortez, Florida 34215; Time: Sat. Nov 11 at 10am-Sun, Nov 12 to 6pm
