Bar Fly Saltwater Grill, Safety Harbor, Fl.

What a gem! Friends took us to the Bar Fly Saltwater Grill on Main Street in Safety Harbor and what a treat! The Bloody Mary Bar is worth the trip itself, it looks like a whole meal in a glass! The steamed bucket was amazing, with snow crabs, oysters, and jumbo shrimp. And the Smoked Fish dip was fantastic. Prices are reasonable and you have a choice of inside or outside seating. We went on a Sunday and waited a little, but it was so worth the wait! We took the time to walk around the town a bit. Don’t be in a hurry when you go, you will be there a couple of hours!

The Safety Harbor Resort and Spa is directly across the street from the Bar Fly – make sure you walk through and make plans to revisit for their Sunday Brunch!

Sharky’s – Venice, Fl.

Sharky’s on Venice Beach is one of our favorite places to go! Food is amazing, sunsets are beautiful and the owner, Jason, is friendly and welcoming to all his guests. Ask about joining Pier Pals! Spend a day on the beach and walk over to grab lunch or stay for dinner and watch the sunset.

Beautiful sunsets!

Pier Pals is a program where you go once a month, get invites to guests appreciation dinners and a no-wait to get in! If you are interested in a more formal atmosphere visit Fin’s at Sharky’s.

Peace River Seafood/Fisherman’s Village

20180130_1241181389736293.jpgFive friends on an adventure for the day is what we were yesterday heading to Punta Gorda. Two of us are originally from Maryland, so we were ready for some Steamed Blue Crabs, Maryland style! And we definitely found them at Peace River Seafood on Rte 17 just outside the town of Punta Gorda. If you want fresh fish, shrimp and crabs stop in their Seafood Market and take some home! After filling up on crabs, corn and potatoes, we headed off to Fisherman’s Village. Loads of shopping, laughing, live music in the courtyard and ending our day with an adult beverage at Smuggler’s (located at the end of Fisherman’s Village on the Port Charlotte Bay). A wonderful and memorable day with lots of fun!

Sea Hut-Crab Trap

(Picture above from the Crab Trap’s website)

Being a native Marylander I am always looking for fresh seafood restaurants. The Sea Hut now called Crab Trap located in Palmetto has just what I like. Their family recipes originated from the Chesapeake Bay area in Maryland and the Crab Salad is full of lump blue crab! The atmosphere is that of Old Florida which is another favorite of mine. Prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. Easy to find, just off Hwy 19 and lots of parking. The bar overlooks the water and they have a comfortable sitting area should you have to wait for a table. They also have a small outdoor area to sit and enjoy a cocktail before dinner. A nice place to bring friends and family for lunch or dinner.

The inside aquarium is a nice touch!

There’s Nothing better than “Fresh Florida Seafood!”

20171222_193818326572275.jpgWe found plenty of “Florida’s Best Seafood” at Waltz Fish Market in Sarasota, Fl.  They say, “The fish We Sell Today Slept In The Gulf Last Night” and we believe it!  We enjoyed the outside seating on a warm Florida night along with the Tiki Bar, live music, gift shop across the street AND if you go, don’t forget to browse the Fish Market inside. Everything from Grouper to Stone Crabs to Smoked Mullet  spread…..and lobster! They also cater and have gluten free items on the menu. They have it all. Friday night was a busy night and the staff handled it great. If you have to wait for a table, just sit at the Tiki Bar outside and listen to the music while munching on the Smoked Mullet spread while having a few drinks. Great way to spend an evening with friends.

Swordfish Grill and Tiki Bar…What an Outstanding Place!

We had a fantastic day, yesterday, at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki Bar in Cortez, Florida. It was the venue for the 6th annual Stone Crab Festival. The Swordfish grill has live music 7 days a week on the deck outside overlooking the Sarasota Bay, which is the place you want to be for epic sunsets! It’s located in the historic Fishing Village of Cortez where you can also purchase fresh seafood. Very casual atmosphere, “a mix of Old Florida and the Freshest Local Seafood” as their ads say. The Seared Ahi Tuna and seaweed salad is one of my favorites! This is definitely on my list of ‘best places to go’ in Southwest Florida.

Below is a short video from the outside deck. The address for the Swordfish Grill is 4628 119th St W, Cortez, Florida 34215, just before crossing over the bridge into Anna Maria Island.

Have you tried Stone Crabs ?

If you have ever tried these succulent, juicy, stone crabs you know what I mean! Stone Crabs are one of Florida’s finest delicacy. Local fisherman fetch these beauties from the surrounding waters and these tasty claws will be served at the “6th Annual Cortez Stone Crab & Music Festival”  this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12th along with live entertainment from local musicians!  They literally come from the water to your plate!  It doesn’t get any better than that to enjoy a weekend of fun, sun, great local food and local music.   Festival location: 4628 119th St. W., Cortez, Florida 34215; Time: Sat. Nov 11 at 10am-Sun, Nov 12 to 6pm
